So, since I've last updated this, I have graduated college and acquired a first grade teaching position at a local charter school in Mesa. Who's excited??? Me!!! However, I'd being lying if I said that I was not scared out of my mind. I'm not exactly all that familiar with what goes down in first grade. I just remember AWFUL memories of awkward square dancing and getting in trouble for stealing from the cookie jar (literally). I promise to not leave those exact or similar disturbing memories with my students.
I also STILL work at Safeway; however, I have moved up (or down) the totem pole so to speak and into the world of the produce department. If you thought working at a grocery store was stress-free, then I dare you to visit me for just ten minutes on a day that I'm scheduled a shift over THERE. Sure, the apples, oranges, lettuce, and other delicious fruits and vegetables may look innocent enough, but trust me when I say that they can be evil! I have never hated a piece of fruit before in my life until the day that I stepped on a red seedless grape, slipping and falling face first onto the ground. You think that's embarassing and/ or painful? Let me tell you a little something about those wooden palletes that everything comes on...those suckers are not to be handled without the utmost care. Example: Circa March 2009...Wooden pallete falls onto a friendly produce worker and destroys the second toe on her right foot. YIKES!!! Pain, pain, and more pain. As much as I loathe the stress that THAT area of the store brings me, I am proud to say that I do a mean Cull, Straighten, and Detail over there. ;) I'm going on vacation from the store in just a few days, HALLELUJAH! After that, it's down to one shift a week...I mean, since teaching is pretty much a 24/7 job...except on holidays, summers, and weekends.
Overall, the status of Amanda as of this moment is anxiously excited. I am freaking out just a bit because planning for a year in 5 days is quite intimidating. Wish me luck. Actually, wish my students luck... May I not embarass myself too badly in front of them.

You are going to be SO great. Don't forget, I taught 1st grade, so if you need any advice just ask. Actually you probably won't even have to ask because I'm on my way to see you and will give you advice whether you like it or not!
